Former Wildcat Nick Richards is here with his predictions for Kentucky against Morehead State on Wednesday, February 4, and will be present on SportsLine on Tuesday for his analysis of the game.

Given that rookie Willie Cauley-Stein revealed earlier this month that he had never heard of Laettner's shot, the head coach has certainly behaved up to a point. Poythress looked shaky on his college debut against Maryland, but he proved a terrific specimen in the last two games at Kentucky. Toppin is a 6-foot-2, 250-pound man who has been one of the most underrated players in college basketball in recent years. As for Calipari, is he concerned that his team didn't have a chance to prepare for a game against a top-10 team like Morehead State (8-2, 2-1)?

Chavis faces a tough test as he is likely to face Archie Goodwin and Alex Poythress. Fletcher has really proved to be the perfect role player Calipari will need later in the season. Chavis is undoubtedly key to a big upset on Wednesday, but he will also have the toughest test of his hand in the first half against Toppin.

MSU is led by Preston Spradlin, who served on Calipari's staff before taking over at Morehead State and made a solid start at 3-1. The budding head coach will not go into this game without a game against the defending champion Wildcats, who have an incredible amount of young talent under the guidance of John Calipsari.

The Wildcats lead 3-0 in their last six games and 2-1 in their last three against the Eagles. The Eagles have been beaten 6-3 and 5-2 in their last 14 away games by the Wildcats, with a combined record of 1-4.

The Morehead State Eagles won 13 games last year and have lost only once in their last 12 home games against the Wildcats, with a combined record of 2-4.

Kentucky finished the 2019-20 season 26-5 and became the SEC regular-season champion, ousting the next-best team by three games. Kentucky leads the all-time series with Morehead State 2-1, including a 1-0 series win at the start of the season and an 8-2 regular-season record. More than a year ago, Kentucky finished with an overall record of 13-19 and a 3-4 SEC record, with an 11-6 record at home, while Morehead State finished with an overall record of 7-10 in the conference and a 13-19 record. The Wildcats' winning streak in Game Three against the Eagles, which included a 6-3 victory at Macon County Coliseum last season, includes two wins and two losses to the Wildcats in 2015-16.

MSU put together a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 12-8 with 3: 48 left in the first quarter, but Howard ended the series by making a 3-pointer and two free throws as part of a 10-0 run that gave Kentucky a 22-8 lead. Kentucky led by 20 points in the second and third quarters before settling for a 25-point victory. Howard scored 11 points in the third quarter and Kentucky took a 71-43 lead into the final seconds.

Kentucky kept up the defensive pressure, forcing four early turnovers and converting them into eight points. Kentucky's defense swarmed in the first half of 16 MSU turnovers that were converted into 23 points, the most by any team in a game this season.

Nick Richards was sold to the Charlotte Hornets and drafted in the second round by the New Orleans Pelicans, and Maxey Quickley was selected in the first round last week. Wildcats coach John Calipari scored on his first three shots of the game, a three-point shot by sophomore forward De'Aaron Fox and a three-point shot by junior guard Tyler Ulis.
